In one of my
classes, we read
The Autobiography of Malcolm X, which was a book written by Alex Haley,
with the help
of Malcolm X AKA El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz—the name he used in closing what now has become known as
the "Letter From Mecca." I thought that it would be better for me to give
you a link to a copy
of the "Letter From Mecca" rather than re-typing the letter in its entirety.
The letter gives a
view of Islam that not many
in this country are aware of, partly from "miseducation," apathy towards
learning about "other religions,"
or they mistake the "Nation of Islam" with "Islam" as it is practiced and
learned elsewhere in the world.
By including this powerful letter hopefully you will decide to learn more
about "true Islam" and the religion
that changed Malcolm X's perception and his attitude during the last years of
his life.
